“Innovative Cluster Simulation Models in Medicine” Athens, Greece

In May 2022, members of the “Innovative Cluster Simulation Models in Medicine” visited Athens, Greece and took part in the 9th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (9th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons 26- 28 May 2022 Athens Greece (eses2022.org))

Prof. Dr. Rumen Pandev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desislava Ivanova and Maria Silyanovska, members of the expert council of the cluster “Innovative cluster simulation models in medicine” took part in the congress. Prof. Pandev delivered a report within the congress. His presentation was met with great interest by the audience and the European community of endocrine surgeons and provoked a discussion related to the diagnosis and operative and postoperative management of the patient with thyroid gland cancer.

Within the framework of the congress, Prof. Dr. Desislava Ivanova and Maria Siljanovska held a conversation with Prof. Dr. Thomas Musholt, one of the leading experts from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. Possibilities were discussed at the meeting to include Prof. Dr. Musholt in the expert council of the cluster and in the consilium of experts of the proactive system for the unwinding of thyroid abnormalities. Opportunities to collect patient data and enrich datasets for training the EU-TIRADS thyroid anormality classifier were also discussed. Prof. Dr. Musholt is one of the initiator for creation the  EUROCRINE registry and showed great interest in the current developments of the cluster at the meeting. Possibilities for joint participation in future projects related to the use of artificial intelligence and modern IT in support of precision medicine for the detection of abnormalities, early diagnosis and personalized treatment of patients with thyroid gland abnormalities were also discussed.

The participation of the cluster members in the 9th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons was extremely useful and opened new horizons for future collaboration and joint projects with established capacities and specialists in the field of thyroid diagnosis and treatment worldwide.
